A Winter Festival is coming to Stokey, with a free Santa’s Grotto, Festive Jigsaw Trail, live music, workshops and more.
The Stokey Winter Fest takes place on Saturday November 30th and is being organised by Stoke Newington Business Association (SNBA).
The fun starts at 10am on November 30th with a free gift-tag making workshop by Output Arts at the Growing Communities’ Farmers Market, supported by Hackney Council. There’ll also be festival stalls and winter folk songs by the Hackney Songworks choir.
20 businesses will be taking part in a free Festive Jigsaw Trail – on the day, children can pop in to collect pieces of an exclusive jigsaw, featuring an iconic Stoke Newington design. Complete the jigsaw to enter a draw to win a festive hamper.
The Santa’s Grotto, sponsored by Location Location, will be hosted by Tower Theatre with fabulous gifts for younger visitors, free mini mince pies from Spence bakery and a chance to purchase festive drinks. Admission is free but you need to book your place.
In the run up to the event, Output Arts will be working with local schoolchildren to create food-themed decorations for the Christmas tree outside the Fire Station. Sponsored by estate agent Michael Naik, the Giving Tree is supporting Hackney Foodbank - please bring along donations of non-perishable food on the day. A fire engine will be out for the kids and there will be live music from local Ukulele Band U3A Phoenix at 2pm and Hackney Songworks choir at 3pm.
Heidi Early, Chair of Stoke Newington Business Association, said: “All of this would not have been possible without our amazing local sponsors, huge thanks to Hackney Council, Michael Naik Estate Agents, Location Location Estate Agents, JM Glendinning Insurance Brokers and all of Stokey’s incredible small businesses. It’s going to be a wonderful weekend!”
The Local Buyers Club is inviting people to join for just £4.99 using the code WINTERFEST and they will donate joining fees to Hackney Foodbank. The shop-local club, which is run by a couple from Stoke Newington, supports independent businesses and members benefit from savings and perks at over 300 shops and restaurants, many of which are in N16. And the fun doesn’t stop there! On Sunday December 1st, Everyday Sunshine on Nevill Road is hosting its very special Dickensian Xmas extravaganza, which is also collecting for Hackney Foodbank.
There’ll be live music from 2pm till 6pm, mulled wine, coffee and cake and sing-along carols with Mark Cox. Among those performing are Syndicate, Miraino-Oto, Back to the Cabin, Karenza, Mally Harpaz and Matt Constantine, Nina Miranda and Mally and Juju.
