Spooktacular Trick or Eat trail for Hackney Foodbank

The Trick or Eat Halloween Trail is back by popular demand, collecting vital supplies for Hackney Foodbank.

The event, which is run by the Local Buyers Club in partnership with Stoke Newington Business Association and Location Location estate agency, will see families donating tins and packets of non-perishable food at participating businesses and households while they’re out trick or treating.

Basil Fansa, of the Local Buyers Club, said: “Demand for the foodbank has increased by 26% in the past 12 months, the charity is currently supporting an average of 670 people per week and the team there are bracing themselves for a really tough winter. Trick or Eat is a brilliant opportunity to teach children about the joy of giving and the importance of helping others, while also having a whole heap of fun, dressing up and collecting sweet treats!

“The fun starts at 4pm and many of the shops and restaurants in Stoke Newington are taking part.”

Participants can follow the trail map to find participating venues.

It’s the sixth year the event has taken place – to date it’s collected more than 10 tonnes of food for food banks in Hackney and Walthamstow.

Heidi Early, Chair of Stoke Newington Business Association, said: “Halloween is such a big night in Stoke Newington and our businesses really pull out all the stops to make it special. We’d urge anyone out trick or treating to bring along some tins of food for people who are experiencing poverty.”

Among the businesses taking part this year are Earlybird Cards, Askew Eyewear, Know & Love, Revere the Residence, Mind Charity Shop, Location Location, Pachara Asian Supermarket, Jarr Market, Prep, Array, GK Locksmith, Stoke Newington Bookshop, Stoke Newington Toy  Shop, Church Street Drycleaner, Evergreen and Outrageous, De Nadas, Knit with Attitude and Ivory.

The Local Buyers Club is a shop-local discount card promoting independent businesses in London. The company is also the driving force between the Winter Toy Appeal, providing new toys at Christmas for children experiencing extreme hardship.
