Popular empanaderia coming to Stokey

An Argentinian shop serving empanadas is preparing to open on Stoke Newington Church Street.

De Nadas is opening its third venue in the capital, after building a loyal following in Notting Hill and Shoreditch.

The trio behind the business; husband and wife team Ñako Martinez and Annabel Fox and chef Nico Buyo have had their sights set on N16 for some time and have been waiting for the perfect venue.  They’re busy transforming what used to be Hollywood Candy into a empanaderia that will seat 20 and a takeaway counter.

Annabel said: “We launched De Nadas in 2022 – Ñako co-owned an Argentinian bar and deli in Hyde Park that sold empanadas. They were really popular, and he always felt there was a gap in the market.  Nico and he became friends, and Ñako asked Nico if he’d like to come on board. When Covid hit, we all decided to go for it. It was a leap of faith.

“Our first shop in Notting Hill has a real neighbourhood vibe, in Shoreditch we get a lot of people coming from the office for lunch.  I’ve always loved Stoke Newington and our hearts were set on coming here.

Our empanadas are really authentic –  they are all shaped by hand and each filling has a different shape.”

Ñako added: “We can’t wait to bring a touch of Buenos Aires to Stoke Newington and be a place for neighbours, and those visiting the area, to catch up over some empanadas and good wine.”

De Nadas will open in early September and, as well as serving baked empanadas, there’ll be alfajores (Argentinian shortbread biscuits) coffee, South American wines, beers and Vermouth.

Meat fillings include Beef, Spicy Lamb, Chorizo and Ham & Cheese. Vegetarian varieties include Malbec Onions & Smoked Cheddar, Caprese, with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella and basil, and Puca Capa, with cheese and coriander.   You can buy a box of three, six, nine or twelve empanadas. Customers can enjoy three empanadas with a salad on weekday lunchtimes for £9.90.

Their sweet empanadas are also a huge hit; packed with Dulce de Leche, banana and cream cheese.

Annabel added: “They’re a great thing to bring to parties instead of a bottle of wine – they come in a really pretty box.”

De Nadas will be open daily until until around 8pm, but closing earlier on Sunday
