Think big, shop small this Christmas. Every single purchase locally makes a huge difference to the area you’ve chosen to live in.

Big gifts for adults

 


This porcelain mountain mug from Rouge N16 was handmade in China’s renowned ceramics capital porcelain - Jingdezhen. It’s inspired by China’s rural landscapes and has a variable glaze with both matt and gloss, making it tactile and luxurious to hold. Price: £42.



Kitchen Provisions’ top pick is this super versatile knife Ittetsu Santoku. It’s perfect for all sorts of meat and veg prep tasks. Easy to look after and with traditional Japanese styling. Price £140.  The store also has a brilliant range of smaller gifts – from quirky kitchen gadgets to beautiful cups, bowls and plates.



This lambswool jumper by Array is supersoft and features a ribbed mock turtle neck, ribbed cuffs and hem. Made to last, this purchase is stunning for this season and for years to come



Brighten up the living room with these handmade tufted Christmas Cushions and Christmas Tree Rug from Ceviz on Stoke Newington Church St. Price: £42.  The store also has a selection of fun mugs, candles and more.



The Tower Theatre’s Christmas production is The Chimes. Set in London in the 1840s, this musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Christmas tales is a wonderful way to spend an evening.  It’s on from December 12th till the 21st.



These solid silver rings and bracelets were handmade for Metal Crumble – the store has a beautiful range of affordable, quality jewellery.

 



We love this octopus candle holder! Many of the gifts in Sophie Macbain on the High St are animal themed – if you’re looking to gift a statement piece, this is the place to come!

Stocking fillers

Earlybird has loads of stocking fillers and cards, designed by their founder Dominic and by a range of local artists.  We love their Stokey bus key rings (£6.99). They also have a fabulous selection of funky socks, candles and chocolates.

 



Now you can enjoy another iconic design by Everyday Sunshine every month with their 2025 calendar (£35).  The store on Nevill Road is also offering vibrant sweatshirts (£50) and scarfs (£40).


Prep’s range by Helen B are sure to bring a smile. Featuring black line drawings on  an off-white backgroundthey’re made of porcelain and the range includes cups, plates, jugs and more.

 


Grab a pair of Chatty Feet socks from The Ark, N16. Designs include David Toewie, Oprah Winfeet, Frida Callus, Yayoi Toesama, Mae Jemisox and The Toeminator.

 



Know & Love has a brilliant range; from beautiful-smelling wax melts to Stokey-themed tea towels. We love their oil burners handmade by local potter Lesley McShea. 

 


Stoke Newington Bookshop’s Christmas pick is Orbital by Samantha Harvey. It’s about a team of astronauts aboard the International Space Station and, as they watch a typhoon gather over Earth, they contemplate the fragility of human life.  

 



Revere the Residence has harnessed the talent of learning disabled and neurodiverse adults and created a brilliant range – from these Love Monsters t-shirts to mugs and quirky knickknacks. 

 


From seaweed snacks to peanuts with chilli or traditional Chinese sweets, Pachara Asian Grocery, on Church St has everything you need to make a Christmas stocking more tasty!  They also have a good range of fun pin badges and trinkets for kids.

 



The top pick for Stoke Newington Toys & Books is this pretty solitaire game.  The shop has a fantastic range of stocking fillers and bigger toys such as the Jelly Cat collectables.  Please pick up a gift for the Winter Toy Appeal while you’re there!



Jarr Market on the High Street has lots of eco-friendly stocking fillers and gift options. Options include pre-filled jars with bath salts, mulled wine mix, vegan sweets, insulated coffee cups, water bottles and more.

 


We love these huggie earrings from Search & Rescue (£24). Based on Church St, this lovely shop has a great range of new and vintage items.

 

 

Food and Drink



The fruity boozy mincemeat in the mInce pies at Spence Bakery was prepared way back in September and has been fed with rum and gently stirred eer since.  These scrumptious pies are encased in buttery shortcrust pastry.  What better way to kickstart Christmas?

 



Made with spiced butter, stem ginger, cranberries, maple icing and a ginger nut crumb, the Good Egg’s Christmas Babka is selling fast.  Pop in to buy over the counter or order at hello@thegoodegg.co



Nothing says Christmas like a big hunk of cheese and the Growing Communities Farmers’ Market has plenty of options – and they’re organic!  Pick up a Gert Lush, (Silver medal winner in the British Cheese Awards) and Sussex Blossom a Sussex sheep’s cheese, which won Silver in the World Cheese Awards in 2023.  There’s also Renegade Monk and Rebel Nun!



New kids on the Stokey block De Nadas have launched the UK’s first Mince Pie Nada.  It’s made with a classic empanada pastry and filled with fruity mincemeat. £2 each or six for a tenner.  If you fancy something more savoury, checkout their Brusselnada – it’s made with roast Brussel sprouts and creamy goats cheese.  The business is also offering wine and empanada tastings in its Vinyl wine rooms for up to 10 people.



Among Meat N16’s bestsellers is this beef rib roast. It makes a delicious addition to a roast dinner, or cooked as a steak and eaten with chips and a good peppercorn sauce.
